Your license as a physical therapist does not authorize you to be a personal trainer. If you are not a certified personal trainer and would be using your knowledge and skills obtained through your education and experience as a physical therapist, you are bound by the provisions in the PT Practice Act/Rules.
If you are a certified personal trainer, the PT Board cautions individuals who hold dual credentials not to blur the lines between the two as this can cause confusion or misunderstanding as to what service is being provided and could result in violations of the PT Practice Act/Rules.
In other words, when providing personal training, you should not use your credentials as a physical therapist or be addressed as a physical therapist. Additionally, you cannot switch back and forth when treating the same patient/client. The two services should be kept totally separate and apart from each other.
