The agency transitioned to a new online licensing system in March, 2025 . In order to renew online, you will need to have created an account in the new system. See the Renew Online tab on the License Renewal page for further information regarding creating an account and accessing related user guides.
See the License Renewal page, including the “Renew Online” and “CE Form Tips” tabs, for tips for entering your CE and taking the Jurisprudence (JP) Exam, including tips for those who might experience technical issues. Also note that licensees using Internet Explorer as their browser may experience issues when renewing, for example, when taking the Jurisprudence Exam, making payment if renewing online, etc. Licensees may be more successful when using Google Chrome or Firefox. If you are not using the most recent version of your browser, you might need to update such.
This form and related JP link are only for use by licensees renewing an active or inactive status license online or moving from active to inactive or inactive to active at the time of the online renewal. Remember that if you are renewing late and your CE was completed after your license expiration date, you will not be able to complete this form online or take the JP exam through this renewal portal. See the Renew Online tab on the License Renewal page for further information regarding how to submit such.
Fingerprinting
If you have not yet satisfied the Board’s fingerprinting requirement, see ptot.texas.gov for fingerprinting instructions. The agency’s Service Code is 11HY44. Further information regarding this requirement may be found on the License Renewal page.
Licensees who have not yet met the Board’s fingerprinting requirement may submit the renewal; however, the renewal will not be processed until the fingerprinting requirement has been met. See the License Renewal page for further information.
CE Submission Form
To renew, you attest to the continuing education activities you have completed for license renewal. The licensee is solely responsible for keeping accurate documentation of all continuing education activities and for selecting continuing education as per the requirements of Chapter 367 of the OT Rules. The required CE must include an HHSC-approved training course on human trafficking that meets requirements as per §367.1 of the OT Rules; verify that your human trafficking training course has been approved by HHSC from HHSC’s list of approved human trafficking courses, accessible from https://www.hhs.texas.gov/services/safety/texas-human-trafficking-resource-center/health-care-practitioner-human-trafficking-training. (The list may also contain a “Continuing Education Credit/Special Note” column. Licensees are not required to select courses that specifically reference OTs and/or OTAs under that column.)  Refer to the full Chapter 367 for further CE requirements.
Instructions: Enter your CE activities taken during this renewal period. You must earn a minimum of 24 CE hours that are eligible for CE credit as per the OT Rules in order to renew. See the OT Rules for further information. One course must meet the human trafficking training requirement.
You can edit the entry you are on, but you cannot edit a line after you have moved to another line. Delete the line by clicking the Remove button and re-enter the correct information.
If you experience issues when trying to enter a specific course title, you may abbreviate/shorten the title and/or certain words/phrases contained therein. Note that the field where such is entered has a 200-character limit.
If you wish to enter CE now and return later to enter more CE activities, you may do so during your renewal eligibility window. However, once you submit your renewal, you cannot return to the CE Submission page.
If you plan to enter CE during multiple sessions (i.e., not all at the same time), be sure to log out of this page and then log back in when you are ready to continue.
Once you have entered at least 24 hours of CE and confirmed that one of your activities meets the human trafficking training requirement, the “Take Exam” button will be activated. Click on that button when ready to take the OT JP Exam.
Remember that after passing the JP exam, you must submit payment and your completed online renewal application through the agency’s online licensing system. A link will appear once you pass the JP exam to access the system. Verify your renewal once it has been processed by the Board on its license verification webpage; see ptot.texas.gov/look-up-a-license/ to access such. See the License Renewal page for information regarding renewal processing times.
Before clicking the “Take Exam” button, save a screen shot or print the page to retain for your records. This form is not available after the renewal is submitted.
Note before taking the JP exam
If you do not interact with the exam page by either advancing to the next exam question or returning to a previous question at least every approximately 24 minutes, the exam page will time out and you will need to restart the exam. It is recommended to take the exam in one sitting to reduce technical difficulties. Please also note that the exam itself, which is a 20-question exam, will also time out after a period of time (usually after approximately 3 hours).
